Cosmetic Eye Surgery

Special offer on Blepharoplasty

Ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgeons are trained first as ophthalmologists which provides them with specialised training and skills involving delicate surgery of the eye and surrounding area. Secondly they are trained in oculoplastic surgery which provides them with the skills to attend to cosmetic surgery in and around the eye. This specialised knowledge and training is essential when it comes to delicate surgery relating to the upper and lower eye lids.

Ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery, (also referred to as oculoplastic surgery), is a specialist field in ophthalmology which deals with cosmetic eyelid surgery (Also referred to as Blepharoplasty).

Cosmetic eye surgery represents a significant portion of an ophthalmic plastic surgeon's work. As cosmetic surgery in the eye area can affect the eyes, oculoplastic surgeons are best qualified to perform such procedures, unlike plastic surgeons that are not trained in ophthalmology. Eyelid Surgery has in the past most predominantly been attended to by a Plastic Surgeon. In view of the complex nervous and muscular system that surrounds the eye, the latest trend is to make use of an Ocular Plastic Surgeon.

The following types of surgery involve oculoplastics:

Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery

BOTOX

Functional Eyelid Surgery

Reconstructive Eyelid Surgery

Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid surgery)

Blepharoplasty is a surgical eyelid procedure, which can correct puffy bags below the eyes and droopy upper eyelids. These conditions may make an individual look older than he or she truly is, and may give the false appearance of being weary or fatigued. Puffy overhanging lid tissue can be corrected, resulting in a fresher more youthful looking appearance. Drooping upper eyelids may even result in diminished peripheral vision due to limitations in the upper and lateral fields.

Blepharoplasty can enhance appearance, widen the field of peripheral vision, and in some cases, even resolve “eye strain” in those individuals using forehead muscles to help elevate their upper eyelids. This procedure won't remove “crow's feet” (in this respect Botox and other surgical corrections can be considered), lift sagging eyebrows, or remove dark circles under the eyes. Blepharoplasty may be combined with a facelift or brow lift in patients who so choose.
